WHY UMFF?

Media images represents the highest and most immediately recognizable commodity in the world. Media's implied messages form the worldviews of millions.

Founded in November 2001, the mission of the Urban Mediamakers is to promote and support a diverse independent media arts community in metro-Atlanta and worldwide. Our annual signature event is the Urban Mediamakers Film Festival (UMFF), showcasing independent films with a strong emphasis of work produced by or featuring people of African and Latin descent.

"Changing the World, One Story at a Time" is this year's theme as we celebrate eight years. UMFF brings an exciting atmosphere that emcompasses metro-Atlanta's cultural diversity. This three-day festival provides actors, writers, filmmakers, musicians and graphic designers with workshops, panels, entertainment, networking and opportunities to collaborate on future projects.

We invite you to join us in 2010 at the Marriott Hotel in Norcross, Georgia. This is an event for filmmakers, actors, writers, graphic designers and film buffs.

What is the true purpose of your independent filmmaking? Is it just to entertain? Or is it to tell stories that impact the audience positively? What is your intent?

The Urban Mediamakers Association is a not-for-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) consortium of independent film, print, television and video production staff and crew. We recognize media as a powerful weapon of choice for making positive change. Our mission is to empower media entrepreneurs through the association, and educate/train the next generation of mediamakers through the Young Urban Mediamakers (YUMs). Guided by past wisdom and reflecting the new, we are dedicated to thinking out of the box as we pursue our dreams courageously. Come along with us on our creative journeys.
